Ford KA MK2 Stereo Issues

Hello, this is my first post on this forum and the reason for this is because I have a issue with my stereo on my FORD KA MK2. It is a Sony aftermarket stereo that I have installed but for some reason it doesn't turn on and off with the key ignition. I have to manually turn the stereo on and off when ever I get in and out of the car.

I was just wandering if anyone on here knew of any simple fixes that could fix this issue as it is quite annoying. I have however previously read that I could power the stereo from the cigarette lighter power source, is this true and if so how can I do that.

Thanks for your time.

Whoever fitted it took both feeds from the permanent live, rather than one from the perm for memory, one from the ignition. It'll all be in the multiplug behind the head unit, but there'll be bullet connectors in the red & yellow to the head, so you can do it as you wish.

Thank you for your reply @TooMany2cvs but I still keep the memory for the stereo so when ever I turn the stereo on it says the correct time and has all the correct settings from when I last turned the stereo off.

There are two +12v feeds.

One is permanent for memory.
One is ignition-fed.

Whoever fitted it connected both to permanent. You want to separate them, and connect the normally ignition-fed one to the ignition feed.

Not necessarily. Many OEM units now have a permanent live with ignition off and rely on bus signalling to tell them when the ignition is switched on and off (or use the switched feed as a signal rather than a power supply).

OP - check to see if an adapter is available/required between the car's loom and the ISO connector on the head unit.

This is a common fiat issue (the ka being a fiat 500), you need to either get an adaptor box that converts the canbus switched signal from the car into an analogue 12v feed, or piggy back the switched live wire on the stereo off the 12v socket.

On the old puntos there was a blue/green wire which was essentially a switched live, and you could move the switched live pin on the stereo loom to this position in the plug, don't know if the newer cars are the same though.
